Hovden Museum of Iron Production

The Hovden area had rich iron ore deposits and supplied large parts of Southern Norway with iron during the Viking Age and the Middle Ages.

The Hovden Museum of Iron Production is built around a reconstructed melting facility and shows how coal and iron were extracted in the early Middle Ages.

Through effects such as sound, light, smoke and scent, the visitor is taken on a journey one thousand years back in time. The Viking will tell you his story in Norwegian, English or German (approximately 15 minutes). This museum experience is suitable for every age group.

This is a self-service museum, free of charge. The entry code is available from the Tourist Information; tel: +47 482 27 235.

Welcome to a journey thousand years back in time!
