Randonee skiing to Svånuten

Svånuten is located near Ørnefjell, between Hovden and Bykle. This might be the best alternative for beginners in the Hovden area. Going up, you have a constant view of the terrain and the summit. The mountainside is long and gentle and invites to elegant, wide turns.

Any route of ascent is possible. You may choose what seems to be the easiest option, whether you prefer going straight or zigzagging to the top.
At the summit, you have several lines to choose from. The vegetation is scarce and there are few other challenges. However, to get smoothly back to the starting point, make sure you have sufficient height towards the end of the descent.

Svånuten is reasonably safe in terms of avalanche risk, but the mountain might be exposed to wind and weather, as there is little protective vegetation. In this fairly gentle terrain, even backcountry touring skis may be used.
