A lot of people visit Hovden without plans to go skiing. However, they are often looking for nice places to walk. We are currently testing two winter trails that accommodates cross-country skiers, those who prefer walking on foot and those who use snowshoes.
1) In the floodlit trail on the eastern bank of the river Otra, from central Hovden to the Hegni recreation area, signs indicating a 1-km winter trail have been set up, informing cross-country skiers to keep to the classic ski track and give room to other users of the trail.
Halfway along this trail, you may cross the Støylsbrua bridge, then continue left towards the pump house at the end of the road in the Otrosåsen cabin area. To make this a round trip, walk through the cabin area until you reach the Breivevegen road and continue to the centre of Hovden.

2) However, there is one more snowshoe trail at Hovden, and from the winter holiday 2023, this will become more accessible. From the pedestrian underpass close to Hovden Høyfjellsenter (approx. 1 km north of central Hovden) this route follows the ski trail towards “Hovden Vassverk”. From “Hovden Vassverk” take a short, separate route to the trail “Hartevasstjønn”. Continue towards junction no. 37. The winter trail stops here, and hikers without skis must return the same way.
