Berdalsbu - DNT-cabin
Berdalsbu tourist cabin is located in Setesdal Austhei, between Bykle and Hovden, and is owned by Aust-Agder Tourist Association.
The cabin is situated at 1000 meters above sea level and about 6 km from Berdalsbru by National Road 9. It is self-service and has sleeping accommodations for 18 people, divided between the main cabin and the emergency shelter. The terrain is easy to walk in, without major uphill sections. Only the last 200 meters have a significant ascent. After walking through forest and marsh, you arrive at the cabin, which is above the treeline, and you are rewarded with a magnificent view to the west.
On foot to Berdalsbu
At the trail's starting point, at the top of Berdalen, there is a parking lot with a limited number of spaces. From here, there is a red-marked trail in forest terrain and over marsh areas. You should expect to get wet feet, as there are many marshy sections. From the parking lot to the cabin, it takes about 2 hours at a normal hiking pace.
At the cabin, there is a trail further north to Tjørnbrotbu and south to Bjørnevasshytta. It is estimated to take about 5 hours to walk to both of these cabins.
On skis to Berdalsbu
From the parking lot, follow the same route as the summer trail. There is no marked trail here, but follow the valley eastward and the Tourist Association's red markings, which are visible in some places along the route. The trails that go further north to Tjørnbrotbu and south to Bjørnevasshytta are normally marked from winter vacation until Easter vacation. The marking is done by Aust-Agder Tourist Association.
