Børtemannsbekken – round trip10 km

Enjoy the sight of the crystal-clear water and listen to the eternal rush of Børtemannsbekken. Despite its name, this is more like a river. It originates in the high mountains at Venevasshalli and flows into the Otra river.

This is a marked round trip that follows both sides of the stream from the large bridge at 'Juvet'. It leads you up above the treeline and offers a nice view towards the Hovden landscape protection area, which the stream borders to the north. From the parking lot to Juvet, it is about 2 km, and the total trail is 10 km.

The trail has a moderate ascent without steep sections but can be challenging during high water flow, which may require you to follow the same path back to the starting point. There is no bridge over the river, so it must be waded.

The trail on the north side (to the left) has a lot of rock slabs, and in rainy weather, it can be slippery. On the south side (to the right), the trail follows a narrow path and the same route as the Tourist Association's trail to Tjørnbrotsbu. The hike is suitable for families, but children need assistance when crossing the stream and should be supervised by adults due to the water flow.

Two alternatives for starting points:

Day parking north, about 3 km north of Hovden center. The trail follows Børtemannsbekken in front of Hovden Apartment. Follow this for about 1.5 km to Juvet/Børtemannsbekken.
Day parking south, about 900 m north of Hovden center. The trail follows a gravel road, possibly an asphalt road via Hartevassnuten cabin area, about 1 km to 'vassverkhytta'. From here, walk about 1 km further on the gravel road to Juvet/Børtemannsbekken.
