Byklestigen – 2 km round round trip

Byklestigen – 2 km round round trip

Byklestigen was an extremely difficult and dangerous part of the road between Valle and Bykle. Today, National Road 9 runs through a tunnel under Byklestigen.

Byklestigen is located 5 km south of Bykle center. It was first mentioned in 1770 and was the only road to and from Bykle from the south until 1879. It is approximately 1 km long (one way), goes up the mountainside, and was very dangerous to walk in the old days. Today, Byklestigen is restored and partially consists of steps. There are illustrated information signs along the way, and the attraction is signposted from National Road 9. Byklestigen is open all year round but is not recommended when there is snow and ice. The hike takes about 45 minutes round trip.
