Day trip cabin Jarebu in Bykle

At the top of Jarekollen in Bykle lies the day trip cabin Jarebu, high and beautiful with magnificent views in all directions, including into the reindeer kingdom in Setesdal Vesthei.

At Jarebu, you can take a break, eat your packed lunch, warm up a bit, meet others, experience nature, and maybe browse a book. The 25 square meter cabin is open all year round and is free to use. It also has a library and a wood stove. Bring your own firewood if you want to light a fire. There is also a solar power system with lighting for use when it gets dark. The cabin is only intended for day visits, and overnight stays must be in a tent or hammock nearby. The outdoor area is equipped with benches and tables.

The library in the cabin offers a hiking experience beyond the ordinary. Here you will find books about nature, local history, fairy tales, etc. The books are meant for reading on-site and cannot be borrowed. The hiking library is a collaboration between Agder County Library and the municipal public library.

Jarebu is part of the Dagsturhytta Agder concept – a collaborative project between all the municipalities in Agder, Sparebankstiftelsen SR-Bank, and Agder County Municipality. By the end of 2024, you will be able to find a similar day trip cabin in each of the 25 municipalities in the county.

There are three different access routes to the cabin, all starting from the illuminated trail behind the health center, and all are signposted. The links below provide descriptions of these routes, and note that the distance is measured from the point in the illuminated trail where they start:

Green route from Kileleitet: Easy route with a steady ascent on the trail.
Blue route from Vassverket: Slightly more demanding than the green route with a steep section towards the top.
Red route from Finnflaten: Challenging route with a steep ascent all the way to the top.
From the start of the illuminated trail at the health center, it is about 4 km to the top of Jarekollen if you choose the green (and most used) route.
