Hartevassnuten – round trip 4 or 7 km
This is a family-friendly hike that gives you a taste of the high mountains. The starting point is Hovden center, and you can reach the top in one hour.
Hartevassnuten is located at 1068 meters above sea level. From here, there is a magnificent view over Hovden and the large protected area to the west: Setesdal Vesthei Ryfylkeheiane. This is a great family hike, and children from 5 years old can manage it. The short round trip is four kilometers, and the long one is seven kilometers.
The hike includes some steep sections and scree, and goes from birch forest to bare mountain. In some places, there are rock slabs that can become slippery in rainy weather. Therefore, we recommend good footwear. Hartevassnuten is marked as a round trip, but you reach the top fastest by going counterclockwise. This is also the part of the trail that has the steepest sections. At the top, there is a viewpoint and a mailbox with a guestbook. Here you can choose whether to take the short or the long round trip. However, the shortest way back is the same as you went up.
Maps and further information about the hike can be obtained at the tourist office in Hovden.
