Sloaros - DNT-cabin
Sloaros belongs to DNT Sør and is located between Hovden and Haukeliseter. From Hovden to the cabin is about 14 km.
The cabin is self-service and has a total of 26 beds, divided between the main cabin and the emergency shelter. The terrain to the cabin is hilly and lies at 1000-1100 meters above sea level. The first kilometers of the trail are within a protected area where there is a travel ban from April 25 to May 31, as the mountain area is a calving area for reindeer. We ask you to respect the travel ban.
The trail from Hovden to Sloaros starts just east of Hovden Alpine Center and follows an old cart road for about 7 km to Krosslosskaret. Once you reach this point, you have completed most of the ascent and can continue in slightly hilly and varied high mountain terrain. To make the ascent easier, you can take the chairlift to the top of Nos. This is in operation during the winter season and for a limited period in the summer.
On foot to Sloaros
In summer, the hike to Sloaros is estimated to take about 5 hours if you have heavy luggage. The trail is marked in red all the way to the cabin.
If you choose to start the hike by taking the chairlift to Nos, first follow the blue-marked trail towards Stølskardnuten. After about 3.5 km, you meet the Tourist Association's red-marked trail. Follow this north to Krosslosskaret and further to Sloaros. By taking the chairlift to Nos, you save yourself 300-400 meters of elevation and almost an hour of hiking time.
On skis to Sloaros
The winter trail to Sloaros follows almost the same route as the summer trail, except for the last three kilometers from Hardingskaret. Due to avalanche danger on the summer route, the winter trail goes to Langevatn and crosses the water to the cabin. From Hovden, there are groomed cross-country ski trails to Krosslosskaret. From here, the trail is marked to Sloaros from winter vacation until Easter.
From Sloaros, you can continue on the trail/marked route towards Holmevasshytta. From there, you can go east to Haukeliseter or west to Bleskestadmoen. You can read more about Sloaros and the trail network around the cabin on the website here
