Randonee skiing at Hovden and Valle
There are many great opportunities for summit hikes in our municipality - and in neighboring municipalities. We have prepared seven hiking suggestions in Bykle municipality for you, in collaboration with several summit hiking enthusiasts. Most of these are located near National Road 9 and are relatively easy to access. Feel free to visit the tourist office to get maps and information about the hikes.

More useful information: None of the hikes are marked in the terrain, so you need to have knowledge of reading maps and, most importantly, reading the terrain. You must have knowledge of avalanche danger and be able to assess it based on the current weather and snow conditions. There are no designated parking spaces in these areas, so it can be a challenge in some places during peak seasons. We highly recommend taking advantage of guided tours, avalanche courses, or similar! There is a lot to learn to have a good and safe experience, so you may benefit greatly from going with a guide.
Here are some good tips for safe hikes!
You must also be aware of travel restrictions/prohibitions. First and foremost, there is a travel ban in calving areas from April 25 to May 31. You can find more information about this on our hiking map and on this website (select "Land areas," "restrictions in protected areas," and "travel ban").
Also, learn the wild reindeer etiquette:
1. Do not disturb the wild reindeer; choose another area if it is known that there are wild reindeer in the area you planned to visit.
2. Avoid traveling in wild reindeer areas during calving in May; some places have a travel ban.
3. Follow marked trails as much as possible.
4. Keep your dog under control and familiarize yourself with local leash laws.
5. Stay still if you see wild reindeer, so they can move away undisturbed.
6. Use binoculars and keep your distance.
